March of Women

This month, we celebrate the long march of women with another of our innovative newsletters containing gifts. There has been a lot of progress, but, as you can see, there are still obstacles (mostly the kind with testicles), and the hills are still sometimes high.

1919: Women first get to vote in Czechoslovakia

1967: Kathrine Virginia Switzer became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entrant. During her run, a race official attempted to stop her by grabbing her clothes, but she completed the race. It was not until 1972 that women were allowed to run the Boston Marathon officially.

2012: Lenka Bradáčová, a Czech state prosecutor, who also pointed out a corruption scandal of Czech M.P. David Rath, indicted a powerful lobbyist, Ivo Rittig, for fraud and money laundering (skimming millions of crowns of public transportation company. But all the media had to say were comments about the clothes she wore to the hearing.

2018: Czech senator Jaroslav Kubera, in an interview with Express made the following comments:

"... I am testing Czech women and girls and I must say with pleasure that they are not touched by the Me Too movement. They don't move, so they like it. I always start by gently stroking them, and I wonder if they are not like the stupid Americans. They are not!"

2019: The very first Birth Assistance Centre in the Czech Republic opens on 5 March, and the board of directors is all men.
